    This unique course offers the opportunity to specialise, with a single or double major from the following 4 areas:

    Biodiversity Assessment and Management

    Gain the skills to enable you to assess and manage aquatic and terrestrial species. Learn the essential concepts of biodiversity, biological processes, and ecology.

    Students will apply these concepts in upper level specialised classes. Modern field methods are used during field-based subjects in World-Heritage listed coastal, coral reef, and rainforest environments.

    Coast to Coral

    Examine the fundamental principles of marine environments and consider the unique management challenges and opportunities they present. You’ll develop the skills to innovate and problem-solve within the growing and ever-complex field of environmental conservation.

    Students learn key concepts in ecology, coral reef management and geomorphology, specialising in coastal, estuarine and mangrove ecosystems.

    Land and Water Management

    Learn about physical geosciences, environmental processes and impacts on land, wetlands, river catchments, and coasts. You will develop your knowledge of how the Earth functions as a dynamically interactive system.

    With tutelage from expert lecturers, students master the fundamentals of hydrology, soil science, geomorphic patterns and processes, and natural hazards. Benefit from field-based studies accessing unrivalled geographical and climatically diverse landscapes, including the Great Barrier Reef catchments.

    People in Place

    Consider resource use and management from a human-centred perspective. Explore elements of anthropology, geography, project management and hazard reduction. This major incorporates a unique focus on land and water management techniques utilised by Indigenous peoples, with a particular consideration given to the North Queensland region.

    Develop the cooperation and communication skills necessary for collaborating with stakeholders of varying backgrounds, specialisations and interests in environmental protection and policy.

    If your native language is not English, you must meet the minimum English language requirements for this course.

    English Program Requirements

    International students must attain an IELTS Academic with an average level of 7.5 or more, across the four components of listening, speaking, reading and writing; no score below level 7.0 in any of these components; and a score of 8.0 or more in the components of speaking and listening. Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement.

    English competency requirements may also be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree or master degree from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA, or
    • Undergraduate degree taught in English from a South African University.
