    This course allows you to integrate IT expertise with the academic qualifications to practise law in NSW, providing you with a competitive edge in either field. Choose this course to acquire a dual skill set that is highly sought after in today's technology-driven legal environment. You have the flexibility to pursue specialist electives tailored to your career aspirations, including a Legal Futures and Technology major that will give you the skills to play a key role in the regulation and management of technology.

    You will gain a solid knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in the discipline of law alongside practical IT skills in programming and systems management. The research, critical analysis and communication skills you acquire will prepare you for diverse professional settings.

    Teaching methods include a diverse range of practice-focused learning activities and interactive classes ensuring you develop both knowledge and applicable skills and are well-equipped for roles such as legal counsel in tech firms, policy adviser, or IT specialist in legal contexts.

    Students study the fundamentals of law (such as ethics, criminal, tort, contracts and constitutional law, among others) and IT (including programming, networking, information and web systems) plus a range of specialist electives that reflect their professional interests. The Legal Futures and Technology major can also build additional technical expertise.

    By completing the law component of this combined degree, students meet the academic requirements for admission to practise law in NSW. As well as gaining discipline-specific skills, students also build capabilities in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration that can serve them well in a wide range of workplace environments.

If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe. In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates. * Excludes students concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.

    Admission requirements

    Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

    What you’ll study

    You'll undertake a range of core Law subjects to develop a fundamental understanding of areas like ethics, tort and Australian Constitutional law. You'll then elect to broaden your knowledge with your choice of Options subjects or choose to pursue a major in Legal Futures and Technology.

    Your IT studies will also see you complete core subjects, building your knowledge of web systems, networking, programming and more. You'll then select a major, specialising your knowledge in your IT discipline of choice to develop a curated, in-demand skillset to support your future career.
