Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) (Honours) / Commerce

    About

Mathematics, statistics and computing skills are essential to advanced financial and commercial modelling, making Advanced Mathematics a natural complement to Commerce. The Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) (Honours) prepares you for the increasing range of quantitative careers in areas such as finance and technology, while UNSW's Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) is an innovative business degree, designed alongside industry to ensure you are one of Australia's most employable graduates.

This five-year degree allows you to build a foundational understanding of business essentials. Specialise in one of 15 Commerce majors such as Finance, Business Analytics or Economics, gain industry experience, and build a professional portfolio. Alongside this, you'll undertake advanced coursework with an honours level research project in your chosen Mathematics specialisation.

    Integrated First Year
Begin your Commerce degree exploring different business fields and how they work together to solve common business problems. You’ll get a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to be successful in business.

    MyBCom Portfolio
MyBCom Portfolio is an online platform that keeps you on track for your future. It guides your studies, develops your personal career plan and builds a selection of your work to showcase to future employers.

    Supervised research project
Your Advanced Mathematics honours year is an integral part of the degree. It involves a supervised research project and, in some cases, advanced coursework.

    Integrated practical experience
Both programs incorporate practical and professional experience. The Bachelor of Economics offers opportunities for internships, group consulting projects, and global practicums, while the Bachelor of Advanced Science includes for-credit work placements and research internships.

Shape a degree to suit your goals
Commerce and Mathematics both offer a range of majors, with the option to combine this with further electives and minors in other areas.

English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

If you’re completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.

If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • English language tests and university English courses
    • Prior study in the medium of English
    • Other qualifications

If you need to improve your English skills before you start your degree, UNSW College’s Academic English Programs are for you. The programs are suitable for various English levels and help you prepare for university studies and life in Australia.
