    Nursing is a global profession that plays a vital role in improving health outcomes for society. Do you want to make an impact?

    This course prepares you to become a registered nurse in Australia, able to practise in all kinds of healthcare settings. You’ll study in some of the country’s best facilities, including simulation wards that are like those in a hospital. And you’ll balance the theory with lots of reality checks at practicums with our healthcare partner hospitals.

    Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

    • Academic Admission requirements (Band 3)

      The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

      It is desirable that all applicants have completed study in a science related subject at WACE - general or ATAR level.

      All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

      • AQF Cert IV;
      • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
      • Undergraduate Certificate;
      • Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test;*
      • University Preparation Course;*
      • Indigenous University Orientation Course; or*
      • Experience Based Entry Scheme.*

      For international students, requirements include your secondary school results.

    Applications for this course are not accepted through ECU's Experience Based Entry Scheme.

    English Program Requirements

  • English Language requirements (Band 5)

    In addition to satisfying ECU minimum English standard requirements for this course, all applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency as specified in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language skills registration standard. (https://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Registration-Standards/English-language-skills)

    These requirements are as follows:

    • IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 7.0 and a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the three components of listening, reading, and speaking, and a minimum score of 6.5 in the writing component. This includes IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR).
      Note: Test results must be from one test sitting or two test sittings in a 12-month period. When using two test sittings, no score in any component of the test(s) for either test sitting can be below 6.5, or
    • Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the three components of listening, reading, and speaking), and a minimum score of C+ in the writing component from any profession specific OET.
      Note: Test results must be from one test sitting or two test sittings in a 12-month period. When using two test sittings, no score in any component of the test(s) for either test sitting can be below C+, or
    • Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic with a minimum overall score of 66 and a minimum score of 66 in each of the three communicative skills of listening, reading, and speaking, and a minimum score of 56 in the communicative skill of writing,
      Note: Test results must be from one test sitting or two test sittings in a 12-month period. When using two test sittings, no score in any component of the test(s) for either test sitting can be below 56, or
    • TOEFL iBT^
    • Cambridge C1 Advanced or Cambridge C2 Proficiency^

    ^Please refer to the School of Nursing and Midwifery Band 5 English Proficiency Band requirements for details of the required individual test scores and test validity periods at https://www.ecu.edu.au/future-students/course-entry/english-proficiency-bands.

    Alternatively, if English is your primary language and you have completed education in English in a recognised country, this may be accepted. Please refer to the School of Nursing and Midwifery Band 5 English Proficiency Band requirements for details of the approved combined prior education pathways and recognised countries at https://www.ecu.edu.au/future-students/course-entry/english-proficiency-bands.

    ECU’s minimum English standard requirements for this course may be satisfied with one of the following:

    • Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
    • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;*
    • Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
    • University Preparation Course;
    • Indigenous University Orientation Course;*
    • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree; or
    • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent).
