    • Is your passion to work in the sport, exercise, health or fitness field?
    • The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science will develop your knowledge and skills to apply the science of sport and exercise and develop interventions that improve sport performance, health, and fitness, and assist in the prevention of chronic diseases.
    • During your degree, your studies will cover all aspects of sport and exercise science, including anatomy and physiology, psychology, strength and conditioning, exercise prescription, and programming and delivery, alongside professional placements.
    • By combining theoretical knowledge and practical applications with 140 hours of professional placement, you will be well-equipped for the career market.

    Entry Requirements

    Pre-requisites

    To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

    • English (Units 3 & 4, C) 

    We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

    Qualification Grade

    English language requirements

    You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

    Additional requirements for placements

    All students must provide the following documents prior to commencing clinical placements:

    • Blue Card or Working with Children Check (if unable to obtain: Australian Police Certificate)
    • first aid certificate
    • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate 
    • a signed UniSQ Student Declaration.

    Note: Courses that include a practical skill competency component and residential school will be conducted at UniSQ Ipswich.

    Recognition of prior learning or work experience

    If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

    English Program Requirements

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit (advanced standing) towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    Career

    • After three years of study you will be an exercise scientist, able to work in the sport and health industries as a technician. Some exercise scientists work alongside sport scientists supporting athletes to improve sport performance. Others work alongside clinicians in the healthcare system using exercise as medicine. 
    • You can expect to find employment in roles such as health promotion, recreation officer, gym manager, sports development officer, or work within sports tourism, community sport and recreation, and promotion of sport performance among athletes.
    • If you add further study to your three-year Sport and Exercise Science degree, you can become a sport scientist or an accredited exercise physiologist (clinician) in your own right. The Sport and Exercise Science degree at UniSQ is the ideal starting point to either of these careers. 
    • The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science may also provide a pathway for postgraduate studies in other areas.
