    Overview

    A double degree in sport management and business is an excellent way to extend your career options. Follow your passion into the sport and exercise sector as a sport planner, manager, administrator, event organiser, policy analyst, or programmer. Or aim for a business role that suits your interests and ambitions, choosing from our specialisations.

    In your dual Bachelor of Sport Management / Bachelor of Business you will learn important skills in:

    • policy, planning and strategy
    • team-sport management
    • player welfare and support
    • gym and exercise program administration
    • community-based activity program coordination.

    We offer fantastic work experience with sporting organisations. You'll graduate ready to plan, organise and lead activities at elite and community level.

    On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

    1. Integrate conceptual business knowledge, with advanced specialist knowledge and managerial theories in the fields of business and sport;
    2. Critically analyse theoretical and technical knowledge in diverse contexts through the attainment of deep discipline specific knowledge and skills, and adapt and apply related skills to the effective management of business and sport;
    3. Critically review and analyse diverse contemporary business problems to design innovative solutions in both the profit-based commercial business sector and the largely not-for profit sport, exercise, and active recreation sector;
    4. Exhibit professional judgement, ethical standards, and social sensitivity by adapting knowledge and managerial skills to make ethical and responsible business decisions – be it individually or collaboratively - that provide inclusive, sustainable, and culturally aware experiences;
    5. Advocate a coherent and independent exposition of industry knowledge and operational skills in both oral and written form to engage audiences in both business and sport;
    6. Reflect on personal learning and skills in relation to career goals with a view to implementing creative strategies to promote lifelong learning and exhibit confidence in their professional workplace readiness, and establishing pathways for the attainment of further professional development and vocational training;
    7. Exhibit personal and interpersonal competencies, work-group skills and leadership abilities to the effective management of both business and sport related enterprises, while also accommodating the divergent and complex cultures of Australia and globally; and,
    8. Collaborate with the organisation to deliver products, programs, services and experiences with personal accountability, integrity, and social responsibility for outcomes, that provide high levels of participant satisfaction, and deliver widespread social utility.

    Building on core skills in management, marketing, business practices and sports practices, you will choose your own path in one of our majors:

    During your degree, you'll take part in a placement program which give you valuable work experience and industry contacts.

    Placements are hosted by 350 different organisations in the following fields:

    • sport and exercise science
    • sport management
    • sport coaching
    • recreation
    • outdoor education.

    We have over 200 partnerships and affiliations with peak sporting bodies, professional and community sporting clubs, and public-health and education groups. Our partners offer work placements and contacts within the industry. They include:

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants for this course will need to meet the entry criteria outlined below. If you don’t meet the entry criteria, you may be able to gain entry by first completing a related course or unit(s). We call this a ‘pathway’.

    If you've completed a qualification where English was the primary language of instruction, you may be eligible for an exemption of English-language requirements.

    In some cases, there may be additional entry requirements.

    Entry criteria

    Meeting the minimum entry criteria does not guarantee entry into this course.

    Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent).
    OR:
    Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent).
    PLUS:
    IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score or 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
    OR:
    Completion of a Foundation course or equivalent.
