    About

    Subject Studies Biology is characterised by tremendous technical dynamics and variety. Apart from the classical areas of specialisation of Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Genetics, Physiology, and Ecology, there are numerous related disciplines such Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Biomedicine, Bioengineering, and Bioethics. The programme offers an overview of the various disciplines of biology and teaches the fundamentals of the subject (e.g. Structure and Function of Organisms; Cellular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Development and Human Biology). As teaching biological interrelations in schools requires solid knowledge of chemistry and physics, those students who have not chosen Chemistry as their additional academic subject must complete a supplementary Chemistry/Physics module.

    English Program Requirements

    You must pass the “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang” (DSH-2) as evidence that your spoken and written command of the German language is adequate for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes for which the language of instruction is German.

    Participating in the DSH at the Studienkolleg is subject to charge.

    Career

    Teachers at Secondary Schools do not only teach their subjects but work within a greater pedagogical and organisational framework. They find positions not only at grammar schools (“Gymnasien”), but in different sectors of the widespread school system. Valid statements on the future career perspectives are not easy to be made since they depend on a variety of factors, for example the range of subjects a teacher is able to teach.
