    Our BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science programme is designed to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of biomedical science and the practical skills necessary to excel professionally. We provide you with the skills required to work in an NHS pathology laboratory, undertake medical research, and understand the pharmaceutical industry. You’ll develop a thorough knowledge of the core principles of how the human body works and a deep understanding of the vital role biomedical scientists play in the healthcare sector.

    Our teaching at the School of Biosciences is research-led, meaning that you will learn about the research our world-leading academics are undertaking, particularly in your final year.     BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science

    What skills we teach
    As a Biomedical Science student in our BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science programme, you will learn key skills to work as a competent Biomedical Scientist such as conducting liver function tests, setting up and reading an ECG, determining blood groups, learning how to undertake research to explore new clinical treatments, and practice critical techniques used in pathology laboratories such as preparing and staining tissue samples and examining serum sample

    Placement year

    The best way to prepare you for your future career is to gain experience in the real world of work. BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science students have the opportunity to use their placement year to complete a registration training portfolio within an IBMS-approved pathology laboratory. This allows you to apply for an IBMS Certificate of Competence, and subsequently, register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a biomedical scientist upon graduation.

    Career prospects

    Our Biomedical Science graduates often work in health, pharmaceuticals, or as HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists* within the NHS. Others choose careers in scientific writing, research, or undertake further study, including teaching qualifications, MSc, PhD or graduate entry medicine.

    Entry Requirements

    You can apply for a Masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Saudi Arabian University.

    You should have a GPA of 3.6/5.0 Or 2.7/4.0 overall or above from a Saudi Arabian university. The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Saudi Arabian university from which you have graduated.

    If you are applying for finance, engineering or science-based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

    Aston University is committed to ensuring that every student is fully prepared to take on the challenges of their Master's degree. As such, please note that if you achieve IELTS overall 6.0 (with no more than two bands at 5.5 and other bands at 6.0 or above) or an equivalent acceptable English Language Qualification you will be required to undertake a mandatory timetabled in-sessional English programme to be delivered by Aston University’s Centre for English Language and Communication. Further details will be provided after the enrolment process including timetable and classes you will be required to attend. This is provided at no additional cost.
