If you want to be in health care, but don't know if medicine, dentistry, research, or the like is right for you, consider studying biomedical sciences. We've basically combined biology and medicine so you can get a foundation that's perfect for a variety of careers.
In fact, we specifically created a well-rounded curriculum to prepare you for almost anything. Your coursework will cover physiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, and immunology. You'll also take classes in chemistry, nutrition, and statistics, plus courses such as Clinical Anatomy and Histology, Survey of Cell Biology for Health Professions, and Contemporary Issues in Biomedical Sciences from our world-renowned faculty. In the end, you will be ready to pursue graduate programs in health professions, biotechnology, clinical laboratory science, genetic counseling, and more. You will even have an opportunity to pursue a career in teaching by earning a certification to teach biology or general science through the UABTeach program.
