    Bioscience Enterprise MBioEnt

    About

    Taught by the School of Biological Sciences, the Business School and the Faculty of Law, the MBioEnt teaches scientists to understand and protect the value of their research.

    You'll learn how to translate breakthrough discoveries into high value products, strategies for commercialisation, key aspects of intellectual property law, valuation tools, and how to write a business plan.

    You'll also complete a six-month industry internship, which offers a unique opportunity to put your skills into practice.

    An interdisciplinary research masters degree that blends the best of Science, Business and Law to give Science graduates the skills to move with confidence in the business world.

    The MBioEnt may be completed full-time in one year, or part-time over two years.

    Students must complete 120 points from the following courses:

    • 90-point thesis completed as a research project and submitted during a six-month industry internship
    • 30 points from courses on the following topics: Science Enterprise Research Methods; Product Development and Regulatory Environments; Current Issues in Bioscience Enterprise

    2023 entry requirements

    Programme requirements

    You must have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Bioscience Enterprise (PGDipBioEnt) at the University of Auckland with a GPA of 6.0 in at least 90 points.

    If you have completed an undergraduate degree (or higher) in science, engineering or technology, you must complete the PGDipBioEnt before applying for this programme.

    Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $8.38 per point, estimated at $1,005.60 for full-time study (120 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.

    Entry Requirements

    This normally requires a completed bachelor degree or postgraduate certificate from New Zealand, or an acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised university (or similar) overseas. Previous work experience may be taken into account.
