BSc (Hons) | Nursing/Registered Nurse: Adult Nursing

    About

You'll divide your time between academic study and practice-based placements. Working with highly experienced professionals you will support people accessing health and social care to boost your skills and confidence. Placements are available across the sector, including inpatient, community, private and voluntary sector provision. Additionally, there will be the opportunity for you to arrange an enrichment placement that could involve national or international work. Our academic staff will share their extensive professional expertise to develop your knowledge and understanding of nursing practice. You will develop your independent thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning will include the use of clinical labs, mock hospital wards, guest speakers, workshops and simulations. All of which will be supported by a wide variety of online learning opportunities, including our innovative virtual learning environment.

    What you will learn

With career opportunities for qualified nurses expanding, our course aims to ensure you're a skilled, confident and problem-solving individual best-placed to work as a qualified professional.

You will study modules alongside colleagues from other fields of nursing - and with other health and social care professionals - to fully appreciate the complexities of working within a dynamic and challenging environment.

Going to higher education can transform a person’s life. We use contextual admissions to make sure that we are accessible to everyone who has the potential to succeed. Qualifications and grades are important, but they are considered alongside other information that helps universities to identify potential and widen access to university level study. For some individuals, the disadvantages they have experienced in their life mean that they have not been able to demonstrate their full academic potential. Where a person lives and their personal circumstances can all affect their educational attainment. We take this context into account and look for an applicant’s potential when making admission decisions.

For 2022 the University of Cumbria will make offers to applicants that live in postal code regions with the lowest participation in Higher Education (Polar 4 quintile 1 – you can check your postcode here  ) and care leavers, offers will be made at the bottom of any UCAS Tariff range.

Contact [email protected] for more information.

Experience in health/social care-related settings such as a hospital or primary care health centre prior to application is preferred.

As part of the application and selection process, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to Adult Nursing. This means that your application will not be considered if you have applied to us for more than one field of nursing (or for additional professional courses other than nursing). In your personal statement, you should demonstrate your motivation for choosing Adult Nursing, and reflect upon any practical experience you have gained.

All places are offered subject to successful interview, Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (DBS), medical fitness to practice and proof of qualifications.

    FITNESS TO PRACTISE

All offers of a place are subject to satisfactory health screening. Further information will be provided following the offer of a place.
Please note that Professional Bodies, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), have certain requirements regarding the health and character status of applicants. Please read the NMC and HCPC information to find out more.
For more information about core competencies and medical fitness to train please click here.

In some instances, an applicant may be invited to attend a professional practice panel to discuss any recommended reasonable adjustments, and whether or not core professional competencies are achievable.

For information about Medical Clearance and vaccination requirements (including Covid-19 Vaccines) click here.

    Disclosure and Barring Service Check

If you are offered a place we require you to comply with an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) background clearance check. Details on the policy can be found here.
