BSc (Hons) Psychology with Positive Education

    About

In addition to the core topics of Cognitive, Social and Developmental Psychology, Biopsychology, Individual Differences and Research Methods, you will develop specialist knowledge and skills of Positive Education.

You will learn about the educational issues that we face today, and what we can contribute as psychologists applying the latest research in positive psychology and wellbeing to support development and learning in educational settings.

The BSc Psychology with Positive Education equips you with the knowledge and skills for a wide range of professions, including educational psychology via further postgraduate learning as well as research or teaching.

You will build your understanding of how psychological theory, and more specifically positive psychology theory and wellbeing studies and research, intersect with education in a wide range of settings.

You will learn from academics working on ground-breaking research in psychology, positive psychology, coaching psychology and education. You will also develop the skills to apply psychological and educational theory to real-world situations through our opportunities to volunteer.

This course is currently seeking accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS) and covers the core content you need to apply for graduate membership.

There are many jobs and careers that are options for you with a BSc Psychology degree. These include jobs within the Allied Psychology sector, such as: Employment Specialist, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, Social Prescribing Link Worker, Wellbeing Manager, Mental Health Social Worker, FE Psychology teacher, Research Assistant or Assistant Psychologist. Some of these many require further training that we can help you with.

Some of our graduates choose to seek employment in non-Psychology areas. These are jobs in areas where there are employers who want psychology graduates, due to the transferable skills you will gain during your studies. These include Human Resources, Market Research, Civil Service, Business Graduate Training Schemes, Teaching, Third sector & Charity roles, administration, self-employed or entrepreneur, data work in public and private sectors and allied health professions.

BSc Psychology is also an essential qualification for students seeking further training and careers in Academia, Research, Clinical, Counselling, Occupational and Educational Psychology. All of these options are possible with our BPS-accredited degrees alongside experience. Other postgraduate options that you may wish to specialise include Health Psychology, Sports Psychology, Neuropsychology or Neuroscience.

In addition to the core topics in Psychology required to be eligible for graduate basis of membership of the British Psychological Society, you will develop specialist knowledge and skills of psychology in positive psychology applied to the different educational settings, including schools and universities. Learning about wellbeing in educational settings, you will be ready to advise on how to promote flourishing or positive mental health within educational communities and how to incorporate wellbeing in the curriculum to understand mental health issues, increase life satisfaction, promote resilience, enhance academic achievement or encourage social responsibility.

We consistently review our courses to ensure we are up to date with industry changes and requirements from our graduates. As a result, our modules are subject to change.

Most modules will follow the BPS curriculum, and there will be two specialist modules (one on Level 5 and one Level 6) on Positive Education.
