    Our Accounting and Finance department have won two awards from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), one of our accreditation partners, recently.     Each year, many students gain placements and internships with accredited employers including NHS Finance, Barnet Accounting & Finance Enterprises.

    Students can access software supported by Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg to complement classroom-based study.

    Students have the opportunity to gain an industry level certificate in Xero Accounting and Xero Payroll. Xero is one of the most widely used accounting packages in the world, used predominantly by small and medium sized businesses. Training is an integrated aspect of all accounting undergraduate programmes and it gives students not only the skills to use Xero but also an understanding of how AI (artificial intelligence) can add value to accounting, from automated bookkeeping to generating reports and forecasts.

    You can relax and make friends at our weekly accounting social club. Some lifelong friendships begin at the University.

    You can enhance your skills and employability prospects by supporting local businesses through our department's tax and accounting clinic.

    Our Business Accounting degree will cover key areas within financial and management accounting, project optimisation mechanisms and operations management.     • Our authentic methods of assessment will prepare you for the future world of work. For example, in our personal financial behaviour module, you will track your own personal finances, plan spending, introduce saving as well as look at the impact of borrowing and investing on your finances

    You will need to meet our English language requirements. And, don’t worry If you don't meet our minimum English language requirements, as we offer a Pre-sessional English course.

    IELTS both online and paper-based exams accepted. Candidates can also re-sit a single component within 60 days of taking their test through IELTS OneSkill. MDX will accept certificates with a OneSKill retake component

    A business accounting degree opens the doors to a range of careers, many with excellent progression routes and competitive salaries including project management, business analysis, taxation, financial analysis and corporate finance.

    Work placements

    We offer a 12-month placement at the end of year two (Thick Sandwich mode).

    Alternatively, you can opt for two smaller placements over years one and two of the course including the summers between your years of study (Thin Sandwich mode).

    A dedicated employability advisor can help you search for an employer who can provide an appropriate placement. They can also provide you with guidance and support in preparation for, during and after the placement.

    The placement forms the basis for an assessed report based on the organisation.

    At the start of the placement you will be allocated an individual supervisor who provides support and advice for the duration of the project.

    You will be supported throughout the programme through a series of award-winning talks, workshops and engagement with professional bodies and employers.

    Finance 12-month placement scheme

    We have developed a strong relationship with NHS London, offering candidates finance work placements for a 12-month period. This is only open to second-year students.

    The placement offers:

    • Valuable experience in Accounting & Finance
    • ACCA/CIMA accredited experience for professional practical experience requirements
    • Fast track to a graduate position
    • The opportunity to work within different departments of NHS, such as financial planning, strategy, payroll and many more
    • A chance to develop soft skills in communication and teamwork as well as insight into applying accounting concepts to solve real business problems
    • Support during the application process to maximise your chance of securing a place on the scheme.
