    About

BA (Hons) Business and Enterprise (Top-up) (Online)

Learn more about the benefits of studying a BA (Hons) Business and Enterprise (Top-up) (Online) with Teesside University.

The course provides a combination of business knowledge and theoretical application in the workplace, enabling you to evaluate the effectiveness of your activities across a range of business-based learning outcomes. It emphasises developing enterprising and entrepreneurial approaches to business challenges and provides a university-based business and management education to those entering through non-traditional, workplace based routes.

The underpinning philosophy is centred on developing an enterprising approach towards business, which involves creativity, innovation, planning, implementing and managing processes within organisations. This combination of knowledge acquisition and practice-related learning enables you to develop your own management horizons and apply your experience in a practical way through flexible assessments. The ability to cross-fertilise ideas between subject areas is reinforced through the work-based learning module.

Develop the skills and knowledge valued by employers and give your CV a boost with our innovative and flexible new BA (Hons) Business and Enterprise (Top-up) (Online) course, which enables you to top-up your previous qualifications (such as professional body qualifications or a HND/FdA or equivalent) to gain a full bachelor's degree – 100% online.

Each module is delivered throughout one trimester, with the exception of the work-based learning module, which is delivered across three trimesters. Support sessions are in place for each module and are facilitated by the module tutor.

    Core modules

    Business Growth

This module introduces the importance of business growth, including the planning, resourcing and implementation approaches that co-exist to enable a successful growth strategy. You learn through interaction and engagement with peers, case studies and reflection.

    Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise

This module investigates the entrepreneurial function, appraising the entrepreneurial journey from beginning to completion. You develop skills in entrepreneurial thinking and innovative problem-solving approaches whilst considering risk, uncertainty and new product development.

    Productivity through People

This module considers the effect of human resource management on the productivity and efficiency of employees. You develop knowledge in the recruitment and retention of employees, the impact of communication and how to best manage complex supply chains.

    Professional Project

Through negotiation between the University, workplace and learner, you design and carry out an inquiry-led activity (project) demonstrating research and development approaches to your own professional development and the development of your organisation. You manage a work-based project to initiate and lead change. The content and context of your project is unique to you or your group.

    Modules offered may vary.

You are guided through your learning by module tutors who are experienced in developing and delivering high quality online and in-classroom learning experiences, and supported through your learning journey through tailored learning experiences that have been designed for online learners, located across the world.

You engage with content – such as video lectures, reading and online tasks – independent of other learners. However you are also expected to collaborate, network and immerse yourself in group learning activities through online collaboration tools designed to support peer to peer learning. These tools replicate the learning experiences that would be experienced in class through discussion and debate of concepts, theories and case application.

The learning and teaching strategy of the course ensures we develop confident individuals with high-quality skills and attributes that are recognised and valued by you, employers and the wider community. This is achieved through:

    • utilising formative and summative assessments
    • actively involving you in collaborative learning processes
    • developing employability skills
    • placing learning and subject content within an international context where appropriate
    • making use of relevant learning technology.

You experience a range of assessments. These help both you and your module leaders gauge how you are progressing with the modules on your course. The assessments may be formative (to allow you to test your understanding and get feedback to support your further development and understanding of the subject matter) or summative (where the assessment will count towards the final mark for the module).
