    About

    A Business Management and English Language degree from Aston gives you the chance to combine in-demand commercial and leadership skills, alongside theoretical knowledge and understanding of the English language, how it works in business and its role in the workplace.

    What youll learn

    You will be taught by lecturers who are internationally recognised researchers in fields such as leadership communication, marketing, economic development, multi-national enterprises, forensic linguistics, language and gender and TESOL.

    With a professional placement year as one of its key features, the programme is geared towards increasing your employability by providing you with the knowledge and skills required of professionals working in the public, private and voluntary sectors.

    Placement year

    The placement year is compulsory for this course. It takes place during your third year at Aston and is worth 10 per cent of the final degree result. You can choose to spend the year on a work placement in the UK or, if you choose to go abroad, there are both work and study placements available. In recent years, Aston students have undertaken placements with a range of employers including Airbus, Friends of the Earth, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and Warburtons, with others going overseas to undertake placements in countries including Japan, Spain and Germany.

    Post-study work visa

    Aston University welcomed the creation of a new immigration route which will enable international students to remain in the UK for two years after they have completed their studies to find work. The new post-study work visa will apply to international students starting undergraduate and postgraduate courses from 2020 at universities with a track record of compliance with immigration policy.     To be accepted onto our programmes, you must be able to satisfy the University's English language requirements. The level required will depend on the programme you are applying for. We strive to make your application process as easy as possible, however in all cases we reserve the right to request an English language qualification and / or conduct an interview.

    Career

    Business management and English language graduates go on to a range of professions in industries including recruitment, education, marketing, IT and the media.

    Potential employers include The Institute of Engineering and Technology (The IET), IBM, Ketchum, Interserve, Capgemini, Virgin Active, and the BBC.

    Employed Aston business graduates earn £11,000 (40 per cent) more than the UK average, five years after graduating (Longitudinal Education Outcomes, 2020).
