On the one hand, theology is a science differentiated into numerous subjects and on the other hand, as the oldest science (along with philosophy), it is currently a highly relevant subject because of its specific identity. Thus, theology is based on interdisciplinarity. In the secular context of Dresden, theology expands the cultural memory of other sciences in an appropriate way and introduces critical elements against tendencies of cultural and intellectual forgetfulness into the scientific and societal discourse. The Bachelor's programme "Catholic Theological Studies in an Interdisciplinary Context" at the Faculty of Philosophy at TU Dresden aims to develop not only basic theological knowledge but also further theological skills that are indispensable for interdisciplinary dialogue and discourse in a secular context.
