    Cell Biology

    About

Cell Biology is key to understanding how organisms develop, how they respond to their environment and how the diseased state differs from the healthy state.

Recent advances in cell biology are enabling cell biologists to:

    • understand the basis of diseases in humans, animals and plants
    • develop novel treatments and therapies for diseases
    • explore the processes associated with ageing
    • improve the quality and quantity of important food crops
    • develop novel and sustainable fuels
    • assess the impacts of environmental changes on biological systems

Our course offers you unique and flexible interdisciplinary training from staff whose knowledge is constantly refreshed by their active research work.

As you study, you will develop a thorough understanding of Cell Biology that will give you the choice to progress to more advanced and specialised topics. You will be given the support and encouragement to develop your passion and ideas for your research project where previous Stirling students have excelled in producing high-quality work. We will also make sure you will have the skills and work-placement experience to kick-start your career in Cell Biology.

We're 2nd in Scotland for student satisfaction in Biology (National Student Survey 2022)
All research (100%) from Biological and Environmental Sciences was rated as having either outstanding or very considerable impact (REF 2021)
Our contacts with science and conservation organisations will give you real-world career knowledge
Our cell biology degree will give you unique interdisciplinary training in the cellular and subcellular worlds that underpin modern biology.

    How to Apply

If you are liable to pay tuition fees at the overseas rate you can apply via the following routes:

Full-time study - all students can apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). If you only want to apply to the University of Stirling, then you can apply to us directly for a full-time course.

January entry for full-time study - we have an option to start your degree in January on some of our courses. Applications for January entry must be made directly to the University and not through UCAS. See what courses are available and apply.

Common Application for full-time study - if you’re from the USA and you’re liable to pay tuition fees at the overseas rate and you’re not applying via UCAS or direct to us, then you can apply via the Common Application.

Part-time study - this is an option on some undergraduate courses. Part-time study is not available for those who require a visa. For part-time study starting in September or January you need to apply to us directly.

EU applicants - if you have pre-settled or settled status living in Scotland or the UK, you may be eligible for “Home/Scottish” or “Rest of UK” (RUK) fee status. Fee status can be checked with Admissions once an offer on a course has been made. For EU students who have a “Home/Scottish” fee status, all applications must be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
