About

Ceramics In the Ceramics Bachelor's Degree program offered by AUArts, students enjoy theoretical and practical immersion within a contemporary studio setting. Program description Ceramics majors enjoy a thorough immersion in the discipline â€“ both theoretical and practical â€“ and develop a diverse approach to making vessel, sculptural, and experimental ceramics. In 200-level courses, students develop and understanding of the materials through courses focused on particular methods of making. These include working on the wheel, using a variety of hand-building techniques, mold making, and casting. Through a sequence of courses, students develop a solid basis in the processes, technologies, and aesthetic issues of contemporary ceramics practice, complemented by a developing understanding of fine craft, art, design, history, and culture through liberal studies courses. Intermediate courses also emphasize experimental approaches, encouraging students to explore the medium in unconventional ways as well as working across media and disciplines. Third year students shift from learning techniques and processes to developing individual choices and expression within their work. As they progress to fourth year, students develop a self-directed, mature, and cohesive body of studio work, supported and guided by faculty advisors. Students work with new visiting artists each year, as well as numerous guest artists who lead short, intensive workshops. Extracurricular activities including field trips, conferences, and exchange exhibitions round out the program, ensuring a dynamic, vibrant learning environment.

Entry Requirements

International applicants are evaluated on the basis of equivalency of an Alberta high school diploma and a minimum of 60% in the final year of study. All final transcripts must be forwarded directly from the applicant's educational institution to AUArts' Admissions Office by August 1. All transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by notarized English translations.

English Program Requirements

To be accepted into AUArts’s Bachelors Degree program, you’ll need to demonstrate proficiency in English by meeting one of the following requirements:

Successful completion of at least two years of full-time instruction in a high school where English is the language of instruction, including a passing grade in a grade 12 English course or equivalent.
Successful completion of one year of full-time instruction (18 credits) at a post-secondary institution where English is the language of instruction, including at least one transferrable English course in composition or literature.
A score of 83 or higher on an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) on the Internet-based test (iBT), with a minimum score of 20 in each of the four testing sections, or 220 on the computer-based test (CBT). TOEFL institution code is 0595.
A score of 70 or higher on the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) assessment, or a score of 70 or higher on the computer edition (CAEL CE)
A score of 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Test (IELTS).
A score of 110 or higher on the Duolingo English Test.

How to Apply

The ApplyAlberta system will allow you to create a profile with your personal information and academic history. This information is filled in automatically on your application(s) to Alberta post-secondary institutions.

You will need the following:

A MyAlberta Digital ID. You will be prompted to create a MyAlberta Digital ID if you do not already have one.
Your Alberta Student Number (ASN). If you have applied to or attended a school or post-secondary institution in Alberta, you will already have an ASN. To find your ASN, you can use the ASN Lookup service. If you do not have an ASN, the ApplyAlberta system will assign one to you.
Names of all high schools and post-secondary institutions you have attended or are currently attending.
High school courses and marks (for currently enrolled Canadian students only).
A credit card or other accepted method of payment will be necessary to pay any application fees charged by the institution(s).
