Chemistry is often described as a central science due to its focuses on the structure, properties, and synthesis of matter which includes virtually everything from the plastics we use to the air we breathe, and from the water we drink to the medicine we take.

Acadias chemistry department has faculty members who are active in many research areas, including environmental chemistry, chemical biology, health and wellness, materials science, photochemistry, and photophysics, among others.
