    About

    The programme gives you the opportunity to study theory and practice relevant to current early years provision. You will be able to develop the core skills, knowledge and competencies required to work effectively within the children's workforce.

    This module develops the relationship between professional development and academic reflection in Early Years by focusing on professional practice. The module encourages learners to develop their skills as reflective practitioners. The concept of 'reflective practitioner' is an important module theme. The module is assessed by completing a Professi.

    The subjects covered in the module include:
    – Introduction to the PDP Module and KTS1.
    – The other PDP competencies will be built into the taught content of the programme where applicable. The main indicative content that relates to the taught modules is 'sign-posted' as follows:
    – Enhancing Learning in Early Years: KU1; CIS1; CIS2;
    – Action Research for Early Years: KU2; CIS1; CIS3; KTS5;
    – Safeguarding Children's Rights: KU3; PPS3; PPS4; PPS5;
    – The other competency statements will be completed with the student's mentor and academic tutor through the course of the study.

    The PDP competencies will be linked to the formal teaching on the programme. Research-based findings on 'action research' will be used within the learning strategy to encourage 'evidence-based practice'. Students will access self-study resource materials- media and Internet usage. Students will receive written and oral feedback to enable the improvement of future work.

    Blended learning students will be taught via lectures and workshops during the residential days, with additional online learning via the virtual learning environment (BlackBoard). Telephone tutorial support will be available throughout your studies. In addition, time is set aside during the residential day for face to face tutorials.
