    About

The minor in Chinese is language-focused. It provides the student with a solid basic knowledge of modern standard Chinese. Students expand this knowledge by taking the required modules of their major in Asian Studies for the profile Chinese Studies. Students who would like to study the Chinese-speaking cultural area or who, after completing their bachelors degree, intend to pursue a masters degree in Asian Studies with a focus on either Chinese studies, Chinese language and translation or art history in Asia and the Orient, should note the following: For a major in Asian Studies with a Chinese studies profile, the minor in Chinese is required since it conveys indispensable language skills. The minor in Chinese can also be taken as an elective from the range of languages offered at the Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies as part of an Asian Studies major with an art history in Asia and the Orient profile. This subject must be combined with a second subject. Possible lines of work: Intercultural communication, intercultural management, international development cooperation, peace and conflict research, international educational work (adult education, language courses, etc.), politics (policy consulting), culture (conservation/maintenance/management of global cultural heritage, cultural institutions, culture management, museums, etc.), tourism (long-distance, educational and cultural tourism), journalism, academia (teaching/research at universities, research institutions, etc.) Job options strongly depend on a graduates chosen major.
