    About

    Civil engineers are vital to the design of our built environment. From bridges, tunnels and transport systems, to buildings, flood defences and water management, their performance is fundamental to modern society. This degree gives you a strong grounding in the design and analysis of Civil Engineering structures. You will develop complex problem-solving skills, gain the ability to sketch and model engineering solutions and become comfortable preparing technical reports. As you progress, your developing analytical abilities will combine with hands-on experience of state-of-the-art equipment, establishing skills which are vital to securing employment in the civil engineering industry.

    Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements of the BEng Civil Engineering course are:

    ABB-BCC at A level (including Mathematics).

    Other recommended subjects include:
    Physics
    Further Mathematics
    Chemistry
    Design Technology
    IT/Computing
    Biology

    Variable offers made dependent on subjects studied and all applications are considered on an individual basis, with GCSE grades, AS Level subjects and grades, work experience, references and personal statement taken into account.

    UCAS Tariff - 128-104 points.
    Must include A-Level Mathematics, or equivalent Level 3 Mathematics content.

    Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D*D* - DDD
    DDD to include a minimum Distinction in Engineering Principles and Further Engineering Mathematics units.

    Access to HE Diploma - D: 33 credits M: 9 credits P. 3 credits
    Must be Access to HE in Engineering and must include Distinctions in all Mathematics modules.

    International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32-20 points.
    Must include 5 at Higher Level or 6 at Standard Level "Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches", OR 5 at Higher Level or 7 at Standard Level in "Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation".

    Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Requirements are as for A-Levels where you can substitute the same non-subject specific grade for the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales' Level Core Grade.

    Extended Project
    We recognise the EPQ as an excellent indicator of success. If you are predicted a Grade B or above in the EPQ, you will receive an offer with a one grade reduction, to include your EPQ with a grade B.

    T Level - D
    Must include include Grade C at A-Level Mathematics.

    Students with industrial experience and qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have studied access or vocational qualifications, you are advised to apply for the Integrated Foundation Year.

    If you are applying for Level Two (second year) entry, in order to be considered, you will need to have already covered the topics offered in Swansea at Level One (first year) in a certified qualification, with a high overall score.
