Courses with a foundation year are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the qualifications to get into a full Honours degree programme.
This course will equip you with the foundational principles and concepts of engineering. Your learning will be underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of scientific principles. You'll learn the skills needed to work in the broad area of a civil engineer or specialist. Our graduates have gone onto work as structural, environmental and geotechnical engineers.
You'll learn fundamental engineering, mathematical and analytical skills. You'll also get choose from a number of optional modules to improve either your own study skills or to delve further into the world of civil engineering.
You'll learn from teaching staff working at the top of their profession. You'll also use state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities in our Engineering Innovation Centre.
When you successfully complete the foundation year, you'll progress onto BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering. From Year 1 you'll begin to learn more advanced engineering techniques and analytical skills. You'll also delve deeper into the science and mathematics behind civil engineering.
