    College Teaching (Certificate NDP)

    About

    The purpose of the Certificate in College Teaching (CCT) is to provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills useful in their current and future careers as college/adult-learning teaching professionals. The intended learning outcomes of the CCT are to:

    1. Identify and interpret the characteristics of effective learner-centered college teaching.
    2. Make instructional decisions grounded in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
    3. Demonstrate excellence in learner-centered college teaching.
    4. Demonstrate capacity to contribute to a professional learning community.

    The Certificate in College Teaching Program is a 10-credit curriculum. Coursework includes:

    • IA 697a Learner-Centered Teaching (2 credits)
    • IA 697b Using Technology in Teaching (2 credits)
    • Elective coursework (total of 3 credits)
    • IA 697p College Teaching Practice (3 credits)

    The program can be completed in a minimum of 2 semesters (IA 697a and IA 697b are prerequisites for IA 697p), and in up to 4 years.

    Admissions Requirements

    All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements for the Graduate College as posted on their website: http://grad.arizona.edu/admissions/requirements (awarded a bachelors or equivalent, minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale, English proficiency documentation for international students). There is no GRE required.

    Current graduate students or alumni of the University of Arizona do not need to provide official transcripts. 

    All other individuals, please send TWO (2) official transcripts from ALL Higher Education institutions attended to the departmental address below.  The department will forward official transcripts with our recommendation for admission to the Graduate College for further review.

    Standardized Tests

    International students may have to demonstrate English proficiency through a standardized test. Please review the different test options, minimum score requirements, and possible exemptions on the Graduate College Admission Requirements for International Applicants website.

     
    Funding Opportunities

    While there is no financial aid available through the OIA to complete the program, many graduate students use the benefits from their departmental teaching assistantships to cover tuition for the CCT courses.  CCT courses carry the same tuition and fees as other graduate-level courses.

    Please note that due to federal regulations, those not enrolled in a degree-program at the University of Arizona and are wishing to complete the CCT are classified as non-degree, certificate-seeking and not eligible for federal loans, teaching assistantships, scholarships, or other forms of financial aid.

    How to Apply

    • International applicants to Arizona Online campus, Global Direct campus, or a Global Microcampus should choose the Distance Learner (DL) visa type in their Application Profile.
    • International applicants to the Main campus must currently hold a US visa that permits incidental study. 
    • Please verify your visa eligibility with International Student Services before applying.  The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa status is not eligible.  
    • Applicants must meet all Graduate College minimum admission requirements, including English proficiency.
    • Applicants should be prepared to submit copies of their visa documents, additional transcripts, or degree documentation if requested.
    • University of Arizona regulations require that all international students on non-immigrant visas carry the University of Arizona student health insurance plan.
