About

This degree combines APUs core competencies, Outdoor Studies experiential, field based courses, Alaska Indigenous Knowledge, and upper division Education courses to prepare students to be educators in Alaska. Community & Place-Based Education (CPBE) allows students to seek diverse employment in a variety of educational settings and work toward certification as a teacher in the state of Alaska. Students earn a Bachelor of Arts in Community and Place-Based Education. Students have the option of applying for APUs graduate level Teacher Education K-8 Certificate program, during their senior year. If accepted they would complete their student teaching and any other required course work to be eligible for the State of Alaskas K-8 teacher certificate.

K-8 Public and Charter Schools: Upon completion of the B.A. students can apply to APUs Teacher Education K-8 Certificate program and if accepted can complete their student teaching in one semester and be eligible for their K-8 Alaska Teaching certificate.
