    Composition for Screen BMus (Hons)

    About

    UCA's BMus (Hons) Composition for Screen degree will help you turn your love of music into a career as you become a skilled, collaborative and thoughtful composer.

    This degree, based at UCA Farnham, has a focus on musical composition for moving image, and will allow you to develop your unique creative voice as you develop a range of applicable skills in:

    • Creating compositions
    • Technical expertise and understanding
    • Notation for music (documenting and communicating your composition)
    • Philosophy of music

    By the time you graduate, you'll have developed your own approach to composition, having made the most of collaborative opportunities with filmmakers, animators, actors and games designers. You'll be a resilient and adaptable problem solver, able to work alone or in teams, who is knowledgeable about the creative industries and has the foundations of a professional network to take into the industry.

    Please note - this course is subject to updating and has previously been named BA/BSc (Hons) Music Composition & Technology. If you already have credits from another university, or if you have work experience to an equivalent level, you can apply to enter directly into year 2 of the course BA/BSc (Hons) Music Composition & Technology.

    • Tawjihi (secondary school certificate) with a minimum of 65%
    For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require that you have:

    How to Apply

    If you live in the UK, you should apply through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). You can apply online through the UCAS website.

    You can submit your UCAS application, from mid-September, the year before your course begins.

    The UCAS equal consideration deadline for applications for courses starting in September is normally the last Wednesday in January. We give equal consideration to all applications we receive by this deadline. But, if we still have places available after this date, we'll consider late applications, too.

    If you apply through UCAS, they'll acknowledge your application and forward it to us. You can track the progress of your application through UCAS Track.

    When we get your application (directly, or via UCAS), we’ll send you an email with your login details for the applicant portal. This is where you'll access all the information you'll need through your applicant journey.

    If you’re based in the UK, we will then invite you to an in-person portfolio review at an Applicant Day, where you’ll have the chance to get to know your peers, view student work, and gain all the information you need and want about life at UCA.

    If you’re located outside of the UK, or if you would prefer not to attend an Applicant Day, you will be able to submit your portfolio digitally. Your portfolio review is an opportunity for you to show us your talents and potential - full advice on how to put together your portfolio can be found here.

    We'll send you details on these events through the applicant portal.
