    About

    Overview

Graduate education in Computational Science and Engineering (CMSE) at Koc University is offered through an interdisciplinary program among the Departments of the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering.

In this program graduate students are trained on modern computational science techniques and their applications to solve scientific and engineering problems. New technological problems and associated research challenges heavily depend on computational modeling and problem-solving. Because of the availability of powerful and inexpensive computers model-based computational experimentation is now a standard approach to the analysis and design of complex systems where real experiments can be expensive or infeasible.

Graduates of the CMSE Program should be capable of formulating solutions to computational problems through the use of multidisciplinary knowledge gained from a combination of classroom and laboratory experiences in basic sciences and engineering.

    Entry Requirements

Undergraduate diploma (or higher) Individuals with B.S. degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, and related engineering disciplines should apply for graduate study in the CMSE Program. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Turkish.
At least 2 reference(s) must be provided. - You should aim to provide 2 academic references but employer references are also accepted - Referees can't upload existing reference letters, they will be asked to complete a short form to provide a reference - You should include your referees name, position and institutional email address in the relevant section of the form - Referees will then receive an automatic email asking them to click on a link and provide their reference - If your referee can't find this email please ask them to check their spam/junk/promotions folder - You can resend an invite to your referees to submit their reference by clicking on the “Resend invitation button” A motivation letter must be added to your application. One of the most important parts of your application is the motivation letter. Its goal is to introduce your background and support your application. In short, its goal is to answer the question: “Why are you a suitable candidate?” Write in a clear and logical manner: remember, the way you write and present yourself says a lot about you. Do not plagiarize as this will mean automatic disqualification from the evaluation process. Some points that may help you answer this question: Why have I chosen to apply to this programme? What do I expect to gain from my studies? Why does my academic and personal background make me a suitable candidate for this programme and for Koc University (potential for success, demonstrated qualities and skills)? Why is Koc University a good choice for me as an individual? Requirements for Koc University BS degree holders: • Minimum GPA = 2.80 • TOEFL or YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL Requirement (for those whose native language is not English) • Internet-Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Turkey must be carried out at the State Universities.) • YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80 Students should take the below courses and the minimum GPA should be 2.6 of these four courses: • MATH107 Linear Algebra • MATH211/ENGR200 Probability/Statistics • MATH203 Multivariate Calculus • COMP 110/COMP130 Introduction to Programming For acceptance of the candidates who do not meet the criteria, program committee members decide according to general evaluation and interview. Requirements for Mechanical Engineering BS/BA degree holders from other universities or institutions: • Minimum GPA = 2.80 • Interview • TOEFL or YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL Requirement (for those whose native language is not English) • Internet-Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Turkey must be carried out at the State Universities.) • YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80
