    Crime Analysis and Prevention

    About

The Graduate Certificate in Crime Analysis and Prevention allows students the opportunity to learn about the development of new information technology, crime reduction and prevention strategies, and ways to address challenging public safety issues. Law enforcement organizations have increasingly started to rely on crime analysis and prevention more than ever before.

The certificate in Crime Analysis and Prevention is a specialization within the CECH School of Criminal Justice that provides students with the conceptual knowledge and technical, analytical skills required of crime analysis and prevention professionals. These skills are also valuable for police officers and managers who may be required to make decisions on the basis of information from analysis of crime patterns.

This certificate will enhance students' educational experiences by providing a better understanding of the field of crime analysis and prevention. Crime analysis and prevention is an emerging subfield within law enforcement that requires practitioners to have specialized knowledge and skills. Like many other fields, crime analysis and prevention has emerged as law enforcement organizations have realized that using data and information can improve their effectiveness. Effective crime analysis and prevention education requires a focus on both conceptual knowledge as well as the implementation of advanced analytical skills; often in nuanced computer programs.
