Critical Criminology

About

The Honours Critical Criminology degree provides students the opportunity for an extensive examination of whose interests are served by 'law and order' ideologies, policies and practices of social control.

This degree offers a distinct orientation to law making, law breaking, law enforcement and social reaction.

Students will look beyond crime and punishment and explore larger issues of surveillance, criminalization, interpersonal and structural violence, and more. The Honours BA in Critical Criminology will expose students to criminology in the broader context of theories of justice and equity – an important distinction both in the field and in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Students can expect to graduate equipped with advanced training in theory and methods, as well as applied and practical experience, in order to become leaders in areas such as law, policy, research and data analysis, and public accountability arenas.

Previous Applicants/Returning Brock Students

Applicants who were previously registered at Brock may not need to reapply. Please contact the Admissions office at admissions@brocku.ca first, for instructions on applying or re-registering for classes. This includes students who have:

studied at Brock on a Letter of Permission
registered in courses previously but dropped them and never actually attended classes
registered and attended classes (even if part-time or Audit), and wish to return to Brock
graduated from Brock and interested in a Brock Second Degree
For Brock graduates interested in Upgrading, please email records@brocku.ca

Exception: Applicants applying to the BSc Nursing program who are current Brock students or graduates must apply on either the OUAC 105 Application (applying to multiple schools) or the Brock Application (applying to Brock only – see table below).
