The bachelors program in Culture and Technology provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelation between these two areas. In the core subject Art History, you examine art history of the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Age, and the Modern Age, and learn how to understand works of art in their creative and technological context, as well as their relation to the history of ideas. You will learn a broad range of scientific methods enabling you to examine artifacts from different perspectives and develop further questions upon the basis of this analysis. Reflecting the Universitys teaching and research profile in art studies, you will further look at the cultural, material, and technological constraints of artistic production and questions regarding the procuration and institutionalization of art. This includes procedural knowledge, design processes, and material iconography as well as issues relating to artistic training, cultural transfer, museum history, and the history of science. In the general component of the curriculum, you learn the technical, methodological, and social skills needed to understand the mental, social, and material dimensions of the modern world and their correlation. You learn to bridge the gap between the humanities and cultural studies and natural and technical sciences and understand the position science holds in society from a transdisciplinary perspective.
