About

As computing technology becomes more integral to our homes, workplaces and public services, cybercrime is increasingly widespread and dangerous. With our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security, you’ll be part of the solution as you learn to investigate breaches and harness secure systems.

You’ll specialise in identifying different cyber security attacks and mitigation techniques, detecting and responding to network-based intrusions, ethical hacking and testing approaches, and applied cryptography. And because other people’s private data is involved, you’ll also explore the legal and ethical implications and how they relate to cyber security.

Computing technology is fundamental to the way our world works. It’s a vital part of communication, transport, finance, leisure and more. In a matter of a few decades, it has quickly developed from the work of the early pioneers to computer systems that underpin nearly everything we do. The pace of innovation hasn’t slowed, with technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, smart cities, robotics and virtual reality taking us deeper into uncharted territories every day.

With our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security degree, you’ll develop the analytical, problem-solving, professional and specialist cyber security skills necessary not just to keep up with these changes, but to drive them forward and keep our world’s computer systems secure.

With all the latest equipment, we provide training in specialist laboratories with high-performance computers and the latest industry-standard software. We also have strong industry links in a city with one of the biggest creative and digital sectors in the UK. Our courses are developed with industry in mind, giving you the skills and knowledge you’ll need in the workplace. Requirements

Entry Requirements

GCE A levels - grades BBB, and to include minimum grade B in one of the following subjects: IT, Computer Science, Mathematics, CCEA Digital Technology, Software Systems Development or a science subject.

Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma or OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DDD in IT or Computing. Applicants with a qualification in Applied Science or Engineering will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Creative Digital Media Production is NOT accepted.

Access to HE Diploma - Pass overall in Computing, IT or Science with a minimum 122 UCAS Tariff points

T level - Overall grade Merit in Digital Production, Design and Development. Applicants with T level in Digital Business Services, Digital Support Services or Science will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 30 or minimum 120 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects, including HL5 in at least one of IT, Computing. Mathematics or a science subject.

Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered. The equivalent of A level grade B in a relevant subject will be required as part of any offer.

A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement.

AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A level-equivalent qualifications.

International Baccalaureate points

Pass the IB Diploma with minimum 30 points overall or 120 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects, including HL5 in at least one of IT, Computing, Mathematics or a science subject. If you plan to meet the Level 2 course requirements through your IB Diploma you will need to achieve Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 5 in English and Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 4 in Mathematics
