Year 1
The course covers topics which offer students a thorough grounding in:
- Information risk management
- Development of a successful security program
- Appraisal of security controls to meet business requirements
- Building and maintaining of secure networks
- Development and execution of vulnerability assessments and penetration tests
- Security operations and digital forensics
Year 2 (6 months)
Students will undertake a substantial security project, drawing together all the main skills developed throughout the course.
Learning Methods
The course is delivered in Blended Learning mode using structured online learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor support. Workplace Mentor support and work-based learning activities will allow students to contextualise this learning to their own workplace. Face-to-face engagement occurs through annual induction sessions, employer work-site visits, and modular on-campus workshops.

Staff Delivering on This Course
The course integrates the expertise of staff gained from research, consultancy and scholarly activity into the programme materials. The course team is involved in delivering the on-campus MSc Cyber Security course which has recently been fully accredited by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), making it only one in three masters courses in Scotland to have achieved this accolade.
