    About

    The Higher Diploma in Data Analytics and Software Development course is a fulltime programme for graduates of engineering or related technology disciplines, that will provide learners with fundamental theoretical and practical skills, abilities and knowledge to gain a comprehensive understanding of data analytics and software development closely aligned to current employer needs.

    The programme has been designed in consultation with a number of technology businesses that are based in the west/mid-west regions (all part of the Limerick for IT group). Analog Devices, HP (Galway), Johnson & Johnson (Vistakon), DELL and General Motors have all been involved in the course design.

    Objectives

    The purpose of this fulltime course is to equip graduates with the skills necessary for careers in industry in the area of data analytics. Focusing on the higher level skills this programme will allow graduates to meet the needs of supporting infrastructure and technologies roles, as well as supporting the objective of increasing skills availability in the region as stated in the Action Plan for Jobs Mid West Region 2016.

    Participants will gain a solid foundation in programming giving them the ability to identify design, code and construct systems to solve programming problems.

    Students will be exposed to languages and systems commonly used in statistical environments including; SPSS, Minitab, R, Python, SQL, and CRISP-DM. In addition they will develop a sound understanding of statistics, information and data modelling, data analysis, and database systems.

    This skill set will equip participants for roles not only in the manufacturing based companies that are the main partners in the development of this programme but also in a range of other sectors including services, finance and more general ICT roles.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    A level 8 qualification (NFQ level 8 or other internationally recognised equivalent), in a relevant engineering, computing, mathematics, science or technology discipline. Applicants from other disciplines who have a significant mathematics or computing element in their primary degree will also be considered.

    Education qualifications, work experience, motivation and overall potential to be successful on the programme are considered in evaluating an application.

    The University of Limerick policy on the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will apply to applications for this programme. Applicants may be required to undertake an interview and satisfy the course admission team that they have the ability to complete and benefit from this course.

    • Photo or Scanned copy of passport to verify ID and full legal name.
    • A copy of your most recent CV.
    • Applicants who do not have English as their first language may satisfy English Language requirements:
    • If your qualifications have been obtained in a country where English is an official language this will suffice
    • If this is not available, the following additional documents must be provided:
      • English translation of your qualification(s)/transcripts

      • English language competency certificate

    To be eligible for Springboard+ funding applicants must be resident in the state.

    Please note you may be required to verify your Nationality and Residency status.

    For Returners and Employed/Self-Employed applicants, the following rules apply :
    - must be ordinarily resident in an EU/EEA/Swiss state for at least three of the five years preceding their entry to the programme.
    ** Note: The period of residency for holders of Stamp 4 or Stamp 4 EU FAM is calculated from the date of receipt of the Stamp 4.
    Any period of residency in the state before this date will not be taken into consideration ( ie you must hold Stamp 4 for three of the five years preceding)

    English Program Requirements

    DUOLINGO

    • The minimum requirement will be a DET score of 120 with no less than 110 in any component.
    • An interview may be required in conjunction with this for certain programmes.

    TOEFL580 (paper based) or 90 (internet based)

    IELTS

    Minimum score of 6.5* with no less than 6.0 in any component.
    *Please note some programmes have a higher IELTS requirement.

    **Please note, we can only accept Academic IELTS. General IELTS will not be accepted.

    PEARSON TEST OF ENGLISH (ACADEMIC) - PTE ACADEMIC:a minimum score of 61 (with no section score below 59)
