    Design & Urban Ecologies

    About

The master's in Design and Urban Ecologies radically reframes the study of urbanization and cities through design-led, justice-centered approaches to urban transformation. By combining urbanism with ecology, design, policy, activism, and community participation, students gain the expertise needed to address global urban challenges and opportunities. In line with The New School's commitment to environmental and social justice, students from diverse backgrounds work closely with external partners to design and implement proposals for critical urban change.

This studio-based graduate program radically reframes the study of cities. Students gain a broad understanding of the economic, political, social, environmental, and physical forces influencing urban growth and develop strategic proposals for more cohesive and socially responsible urban development.
