    Entry requirements

What you need in order to get into this course. There are different pathway options depending on your level of work and education experience.

    Application Requirements

Please refer to our application requirements before applying for a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes (GC-DIABET) at Curtin.

    • Before applying please consider your employment opportunities, this course does not automatically lead to a unique diabetes educator position. Diabetes educator positions are decided by industry in keeping with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association’s credentialing recommendations.
    • Only certain health professions are eligible for credentialing status, namely a Registered Nurse (RN or Division One), Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, Accredited Practising Dietitian, Registered Medical Practitioner, Registered Pharmacist, Podiatrist, Accredited Exercise Physiologist or a Registered Physiotherapist.
    • Applicants are required to provide as much information as possible relating to their education and professional background to assist in application evaluation.
    • Those eligible for credentialing, those already working in diabetes services (or have an arrangement with their employer to transition to a diabetes role upon completion of the course), and those who have relevant work experience in health service, education, management and/or research will also be given preference.

The Diabetes Professional practice unit includes a period of clinical practice as well as theoretical study. You’re expected to complete the equivalent of 10 days (which may be possible full-time or part-time) working alongside a diabetes educator and the diabetes health professional care team. The clinical practical experience is planned to meet the requirements of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association by providing a varied clinical experience. As such, you may be required to travel to diabetes centres within your state. These centres may be some distance from your home base and require you to stay away from home. Travel and accommodation expenses may be involved and are to be paid for by the student. In some states students are also required to pay for their placement.

Clinical placements are part of the final unit. To assist us with we will require you to complete and return a Clinical Placement Form which will be part of your application. This form enables you to nominate your preferred placement site. A list of sites that Curtin has previously placed students is provided, however you are able to nominate another site following the instructions on the Clinical Placement Form.

    • academic transcript and award certificate
    • resume
    • Clinical placement form [.pdf – 175 kB]
    • Proof of current professional registration with AHPRA or other Registration authority e.g. Accredited Practicing Dietitian status.

Note: The application selection process will commence after the application closing date.
