    Note

    This course is not available as a separate course but is taken in conjunction with one of UTS's Information Technology undergraduate courses.

    This course is designed for undergraduate IT students seeking practical industry experience. By undertaking this course in conjunction with your UTS undergraduate IT course, you integrate nine months of full-time work with academic studies, enhancing your real-world understanding. Its uniqueness lies in the direct application of coursework to the IT sector, equipping you with relevant skills and knowledge. You will learn on the job, supported by academic insights, preparing you for graduate roles. International students are eligible for full-time work throughout the diploma.

    The diploma is extremely beneficial for students relating their final year of coursework to the practical needs of the IT industry. This experience is invaluable when applying for graduate career positions.

    Course aims

    The course aims to develop students' technical and generic work skills in a workplace environment. It also enables students to develop lifelong learning skills and gain a better understanding of the relationship between theory and practice.

    Admission requirements

    Applicants for admission must satisfy the selection criteria as specified by the faculty.

    This course is normally available to students who are currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours) (C09119), Bachelor of Games Development (C10229), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (C10239), Bachelor of Information Technology Bachelor of Business (C10219), Bachelor of Information Technology Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation (C10327), and Bachelor of Information Technology Bachelor of Laws (C10245).

    Students must have progressed to a particular stage of their program of study and completed certain subject requirements before being admitted concurrently to the Diploma in Information Technology Professional Practice. Students who have completed all subjects in their course may still enrol in the diploma, but cannot graduate from their course until they finish the diploma.

    Non-UTS students who hold an ACS Foundation work integrated learning scholarship may also apply for the Diploma in Information Technology Professional Practice.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
