Our Diploma builds on this experience and includesan internationally recognised Certificate in Fitness and Conditioning which will equip you to develop and train clients more effectively.

Get practical experience at our workshops (choose from Thurles, Galway, Cork or Dublin) and have access to our tutors throughout your time with us. We will support you every step of the way.

    Diploma in Personal Training and Strength & Conditioning

    The Setanta College Diploma in Personal Training and Strength and Conditioning is a Level 6, internationally recognised, dual qualification. The duration of the course is 10 months with online lectures and 7 practical workshops. Throughout the course you will study 3 modules of Functional Screening, Resistance Training and Advanced Resistance Training, along with the following REPS Ireland approved units:

    Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise

    Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health

    Applying the Principles of Nutrition

    Planning & Instructing gym-based exercise

    Programming & Delivering personal training with clients

    Students will study one module at a time, each lasting three months. The three modules you will complete in this course are:

    1. Functional Screening
    2. Resistance Training
    3. Advanced Resistance Training

    Along with the following REPS Ireland bespoke personal training topics:

    • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise

    • Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health

    • Applying the Principles of Nutrition

    • Planning & Instructing gym-based exercise

    • Programming & Delivering personal training with clients

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • Applicants must be 18 years or older on the 1st of January on the year of admission. Applications for all our undergraduate programmes must meet the minimum entry requirements for the college. A minimum of two H5’s and four O6’s (to include English & Maths) in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent, is required. All applicants under the age of 23 will have to provide their Leaving Certificate transcript and proof of age prior to enrolment.
    • If you are over 23 years of age you may apply as a mature student. Mature student applications are assessed on the basis of age, coaching/playing experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the programme for which they are applying.
    • Minimum admission requirements for graduates of QQI/FETAC Level 5 awards (former NCVA Level 2 or 3) is a full QQI/FETAC award in a course in a cognate area with a distinction grade in at least three modules.
    • In the case of international learners where English is not their first language, they will be required to demonstrate a sufficient level of English Language proficiency. Setanta College accept the following:
      1. IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or equivalent score of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) normally IELTS 6 which must be dated within 2 years of enrolment onto programme.
      2. CEFR standard (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B2+ which must be dated within 2 years of enrolment onto programme.
      3. Successful completion of major award at level 5 or higher mapped to the NFQ completed through English.

    Graduates of our Diploma in Personal Training can easily progress their career with Setanta College through our “Bridging Module”. The Bridging Module is designed to allow a direct progression for Diploma in Personal Training graduates onto our Strength & Conditioning pathway, meaning students would have the opportunity to enrol in our Certificate in Strength and Conditioning at a reduced price.

    Due to the extent of Resistance Training material covered in the Diploma, students will be enrolled onto the bridging module. This consists of 6 weeks of content with one assignment to complete.

    After completing the assignment, the student is prepared to enter directly onto Module 5 (Speed Development) of the Strength & Conditioning pathway.
