    About

    Natural disasters like floods and earthquakes, epidemics, the effects of climate and demographic change, political and economic impacts of international crises–all these aspects endanger and inhibit peoples lives. Adequate preparedness for future catastrophes and professional management when they strike have become increasingly important, calling for better education and training of catastrophe management experts for all stages, before, during or after. The University of Bonn offers its master's degree program for continuing education in Disaster Management and Risk Governance in cooperation with Germanys Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The program has an interdisciplinary focus where students acquire the ability to translate plans into action and other key competencies that are useful and necessary for robust catastrophe preparedness and thus robust catastrophe management. The degree program is aimed at university graduates with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience who desire to gain additional academically sound qualifications. Possible lines of work: Public authorities, German government corporations (e.g. GIZ), aid organizations (e.g. THW, German Red Cross (DRK)), NGOs, health sector, education (schools, adult education), associations (e.g. the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV), insurance companies, private sector (e.g. in critical infrastructures), academia (teaching/research at universities, research institutions, etc.) Tuition: € 10,500 total Master's degree programs for continuing education are subject to tuition. The amount of tuition depends on the range of courses offered in the particular degree program and is based the programs scale of charges.
