    About

Are you interested in working in bilingual education programs? Our Dual Language Certificate Program aims to promote biliteracy and multiculturalism by meeting the diverse needs of students, families, and teachers in Massachusetts. In this five-course certificate, you will learn contemporary theory, critical perspectives, and culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogical practices for working with multilingual learners. Successful completion of the Dual Language Certificate Program also meets the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements for the Bilingual Education Endorsement.  Due to the nature of this graduate certificate, this program is only available on-campus.

    Coursework
The certificate program consists of a classroom-based fieldwork component (100 hours) and five courses:

Apling 605: Theories and Principles of Language Teaching
Apling 614: Foundations of Bilingual/Multilingual Education
    Apling 615: Dual Language Pedagogy
Apling 616: Curriculum Development in Bilingual Education
Apling 618: Teaching ESL: Methods and Approaches

    Community
Join other teachers in exploring and critiquing current policy, practice, and research on dual language education and working together with the dynamic dual language community in the greater Boston area to engage dual language learners in strengths-based curriculum and classroom practices.
