    Advance your personal growth as a leader of education so that you can deliver excellent health and social care now and in the future. Effective leadership and management do not happen by chance. This practice-related course will help you develop the knowledge, skills and qualities to be an effective educational leader.

    What is becoming increasingly apparent is the correlation between the highly skilled health and social care workforce that has the right skills, behaviours and education, and the delivery of excellent health and social care and an ability to transform services. There is clear recognition of how the educated workforce can effectively contribute towards the transformation of services and support the implementation of health and social care reform.

    This course is aimed at all professionals including allied health professionals, health care scientists, nurses, midwives, doctors, and social workers who want to develop the knowledge, skills, qualities and behaviours to be effective leaders of health and social care education. The course combines education, leadership and service improvement and reform.

    The full course runs full-time or part-time giving you the chance to exit with the following awards:

    Full-time:

    • Postgraduate Diploma: four modules over eight months
    • Masters: four modules plus a dissertation over one year

    Part-time:

    • Postgraduate Diploma: four modules over two years
    • Masters: four modules plus a dissertation over three years

    You will:

    • Develop yourself within three areas: education; leadership; and service improvement, transformation and reform
    • Be able to lead an education based project for the benefit of service user and or service improvements
    • Learn how to deal with complex leadership situations
    • Learn to base your education and leadership practices on sound research and evidence based practice
    • Learn the skills to empower yourself and others to deliver health and social care reform and transformation through the leadership of health and social care education
    • Gain the confidence to try new and creative approaches

    What you need to know

    Applicant profile

    This course is suitable for all UK and international health and social care professionals: Allied health professionals, health care scientists, nurses, midwives and doctors who want to develop the knowledge, skills and qualities to be effective leaders of health and social care education.

    English language requirements

    If you are an international student and not from a majority English-speaking country, you will need IELTS 6.5 with no element below 5.5. We also accept a range of other English language qualifications. If you do not have the English language requirements, you could take our Pre-Sessional English course.

    Standard entry requirements

    Undergraduate degree

    An equivalent Bachelor’s degree normally with a 2:2 honours or professional qualification (if applicable) from the UK or elsewhere.

    International Students (full-time only)

    If you are an international applicant you must demonstrate access to a health care organisation in order to undertake and apply the required work-based learning (contextualise theory and practice).

    If this is not possible you must demonstrate recent (contemporary) knowledge of a health care organisation in order to undertake and apply the required work-based learning activities and contextualise theory and it is preferred that you are sponsored by the organisation/ government so have continuing links with your country health care organisation.

    You will be made aware of the philosophy of a work-based learning programme (contextualise theory and practice) approach from the outset.

    Alternative entry requirements

    Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

    We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/ traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

    The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

    Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
