    About

    How do labels affect children’s identity? How does our individuality affect the way we learn a subject? Do our emotions alter our ability to learn?

    Educational psychology draws on a wide range of psychological theory and real-world experiences to build an understanding of how children develop and learn. It takes account of the social and cultural contexts of children’s lives and schooling, as well as their individual growth and development.

    Here at Manchester Met, we are working with key partners in services, schools and communities across Greater Manchester and beyond to create a vibrant place for study.     Course information

    On our three-year course, you’ll explore how we learn and the extent to which our brain, mind, and personality affect our ability to learn. You’ll investigate psychological theory through the lens of education.

    We use real-world experiences to help you understand a psychological theory we are exploring in a lecture or seminar. We focus on investigating how real-world aspects can have an impact on how we learn, and how they can be supported.

    UCAS tariff points

    A Levels ­– e.g. BBC

    Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma – DMM

    Access to HE Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum 112 UCAS Tariff points

    UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma - grade of Merit overall

    OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DMM

    T Levels - We welcome applications from students undertaking T Level qualifications. Eligible applicants will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of Merit as a condition of offer.

    IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 28 or minimum 112 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects

    Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered.

    A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement.

    AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A-level equivalent qualifications.

    International Baccalaureate points

    IB Diploma with minimum 28 points overall or 104 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects. If you plan to meet the Level 2 course requirements through your IB Diploma you will need to achieve Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 5 in English and Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 4 in Mathematics

    6.0 with no component below 5.5, taken within two years of course start date

    Additional requirements

    DBS and Satisfactory declaration in relation to the Childcare Disqualification Regulation Act 2009 required. Instructions on how to complete these checks will be provided once you hold a firm offer for this course.

    As an educational psychology graduate, you'll be well placed to progress to a wide range of career paths in education, health and social care, psychology or research.

    If you’re interested in teaching, you could progress to PGCE Primary or to PGCE Secondary Psychology.

    Our accreditation means you'll have the opportunity to be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the BPS. This is required for progression to training as a professional psychologist in any area, such as educational, clinical, counselling or forensic psychology.
