    About

Electrical Engineering is a broad subject area that deals with the generation, development, distribution and use of complex systems on the basis of electrical, electronic and information engineering components and devices. At the TU Dresden, the study programme in Electrical Engineeering is an integrated five-year (single-tier) programme leading to a Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.) degree. The programme thus includes the Bachelor as well as the Master level. The Diplom degree is equivalent to the Master’s degree. The programme is modularly structured. It is divided into four semesters of basic studies and six semesters of advanced studies including a basic internship of six weeks, a specialised internship of 20 weeks and the Diplom thesis. The basic studies (1st–4th semesters) include the following subjects: - mathematics - natural sciences - computer science - fundamentals of electrical engineering - materials in electrical engineering - technical mechanics - systems theory - electronic components and microelectronics - fundamentals of electrical power engineering - fundamentals of automation engineering and measurement - fundamentals of communications engineering Having passed the basic studies, the student receives the intermediate exam certificate (Vordiplom-Zeugnis). During the advanced studies (5th–10th semester), the student can specialise in one of the following areas: A. automation, measurement and control, B. communications and information technology, C. electrical power engineering, D. microelectronics, or E. electronic systems and technology and biomedical engineering The mandatory modules of the chosen area of specialisation have to be combined with several mandatory electives, which can be chosen from a wide variety of subjects.
