    About

The course aims to train future generations of engineers in skills suitable for industry both locally and nationally. It covers the basic engineering topics early in the program to ensure students are equipped to study the more advanced topics such as microprocessor-based systems, power transmission with electromechanics, digital engineering and industry 4.0 in following years. A common first year allows students to make informed choices for future specialisations, whilst still including some multi-skilling. The courses is written to allow candidates on higher apprenticeships to progress to completion, via APL, without adversely affecting direct entry candidates; the college already has an engineering access course approved for delivery for those candidates returning to study or requiring additional tuition. Students may be accepted from alternate higher education pathways in engineering, previous study will be assessed to provide the correct entry point on the program. The delivery team have significant industry experience in a variety of engineering industries to draw on, as well as utilising college industrial connections to ensure content is applicable to the modern engineering environment. Currently there is no clear progression for the HND Electrical Engineering students wishing to progress to Level 6. The existing programs do not fully satisfy the requirements of this student group.
