    About

This honours degree final year is designed for people with a strong interest in the environment who would like to develop their scientific skills and knowledge base. You can progress to this one-year programme once you have successfully completed a science-related foundation degree or equivalent qualification. As part of this programme you will study core modules in research methods, environmental impact assessment and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). You will also design and carry out a research project in which you will investigate specific aspects of the environment. In addition to the core modules you choose two optional modules which allow you to specialise in your particular areas of interest. The programme is assessed by a mixture of coursework, in-class tests and exams. During your studies you will develop a range of practical and academic skills relevant to working in the environmental sector. This programme will also provide you with an insight into the business world and the practices of organisations involved in environmental work. Experienced, supportive and fully qualified academic staff will deliver the programme and be able to help and guide you throughout the course. Whilst on the course you will also benefit from a geographic location that utilises a diverse range of terrestrial, fresh water and marine ecosystems, as well as examples of contaminated land arising from the mining heritage of the area, as well as a dynamic renewable energy sector. You will also have access to, and make full use of, our well-equipped laboratories.
