    About

    Exercise, health, and rehabilitation scientists help people to overcome challenges and play a crucial role in promoting health and wellbeing. They design exercise and rehabilitation programmes, carry out assessments and research in the NHS and the private healthcare sector.

    Our professionally endorsed Exercise, Health and Rehabilitation Science degree examines the causes, prevention and treatment of acute and chronic disease and injury. You'll gain hands-on practical experience on placement, through working with clients in the community, and in our BASES-accredited labs and extensive sport and exercise facilities.

    The BSc Exercise, Health and Rehabilitation Science degree course responds to the growing health agenda to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

    Entry Requirements

    A-levels or BTEC
    Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBB–BCC (120–104 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DDM–DMM. Our conditional offers typically fall within this range. Applicants studying a mixture of A-levels and BTEC will be made offers based on these grades. International Baccalaureate
    30 points, with three subjects at Higher level. Access to HE Diploma
    Pass with 60 credits overall. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at distinction and 21 credits at merit. T-level
    Merit in the Health, Healthcare Science or Science T-level. Other T-levels are not accepted. English language requirements

    A qualification, HE credits, or relevant experience may count towards your course at Brighton, and could mean that you do not have to take some elements of the course or can start in year 2 or 3. Don’t meet these entry requirements?
    Our Sport BSc(Hons) with integrated foundation year provides an extra year of study at foundation level if you do not have the academic qualifications or experience needed for entry to this course. Successful completion of the foundation year enables you to progress onto year 1 of this degree.

    Placements

    In your final year a placement will provide you with hands-on professional experience. This will enhance your CV and provide you with a network of industry contacts.

    We have partnerships with a wide range of organisations in the field of exercise, health and rehabilitation. You could work in a community programme collaborating with clinical and healthcare professionals and disability groups to improve people’s health. This could include a falls prevention exercise classes in local care homes or in a cardiac, stroke or cancer rehabilitation programme.

    Opportunities also exist in more sport related settings such as with local amateur and professional hockey, cricket and football teams.

    Students on related courses have had placement positions including:

    • long-term multiple conditions exercise class assistant with Freedom Leisure
    • adapted physical activity assistant with Chailey Heritage Foundation
    • assistant to a paralympic coach planning training programmes for swimming
    • assistant physiotherapist with Eastbourne Borough Football club
    • Working with Brighton & Hove Albion FC’s Cerebral Palsy team.

    Work-related experience

    In addition to the placement, you'll have other opportunities to improve your skills and employability.

    In year 2 you will apply your learning to real-life experiences through the physiology, psychology and exercise referral and rehabilitation core modules.

    This will include working with clients in a supervised setting profiling performance and health, and completing testing of function in the physiology and psychology labs and in community settings.

    The growing public agenda towards managing health through physical activity opens up many career opportunities for students studying the BSc Exercise, Health and Rehabilitation Science degree.

    A recent report into the economic impact of sport and exercise science demonstrated the growth in employment for graduates in health and well-being related aspects of sport and exercise, alongside the growth of commercial businesses providing services in support of a healthy lifestyle throughout the lifespan.

    The skills you’ll develop towards becoming a practitioner in the area of exercise, health and rehabilitation will be attractive to a wide range of employers both in the NHS and with private healthcare providers.

    Graduates can expect to progress to roles such as:

    • health and well-being advisor
    • cardiac scientist
    • respiratory/cardiac physiologist
    • physiotherapy technical instructor.

    Further study

    This degree opens up a range of postgraduate study options.

    At Brighton, you could progress on to one of our sport and exercise postgraduate degrees or one of our other subject areas if you are looking to change course.

    You could also apply to study for a one-year PGCE to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or choose to apply for a research degree and join our team of world-leading researchers.
