    Fashion Communication

    About

Fashion is an evolutionary and multi-faceted industry that takes innovations in technology and culture as inspiration.

Fashion is an evolutionary and multi-faceted industry that takes innovations in technology and culture as inspiration.

From social media campaigns and fashion shoots through to discussions around how in-store experiences and disruptive technology are changing consumer behaviour - this course will place you at the forefront of fashion communication.

This creative and hands-on degree is for students who aspire to work in fashion imaging, styling, social media, branding or publishing. Our diverse programme allows for innovative experimentation in all areas of fashion communication and promotion, and produces individual graduates who are ready to commit to a wide range of roles in the global fashion, lifestyle and beauty industries.

Our energetic Fashion Communication course enables you to cultivate strong conceptual, visual and written communication skills. You’ll explore a broad range of techniques including photography and moving image, analytics and market research, art direction and styling, social media and advertising.

The School of Design + Communication acknowledges the rich history of design relative to industry and manufacturing, whilst embracing radical new forms of design as modes of intervention, play and transformation. By utilising new technologies, identifying emerging markets and defining more sustainable methods in their work, we bring purposeful design into everyday lives to solve the most urgent issues we face as a community and society.

Our unit structure applies to all of our undergraduate courses and creates a culture that promotes curiosity and creative thinking that extends beyond subject boundaries. Thematic approaches encourage an environment of free-flowing creative learning and opportunities for collaboration. Each unit will be contextualised by the subject specialism, and delivery will manifest uniquely through the specialist lens of each course.

    Entry Requirements

Although many of our students do come in with top grades and high UCAS points, these aren’t necessarily essential for entry. We typically ask for a minimum of 112 UCAS points, but we understand that talented artists, designers and makers can have a wide range of relevant strengths and skills beyond formal qualifications. We’re just as interested in exploring your portfolio and discussing your creative experiences as we are in seeing your grades.

We recognise the value of a variety of qualifications and relevant experience and welcome applications from students who have followed less traditional routes. We also accept a range of international qualifications and will look at each application individually.

    Career

Professional practice is embedded within all of our programmes. Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to develop the key professional, transferable skills for employability in the creative industries and potentially work in partnership with other sectors locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.

In close consultation with Industry Liaison Groups, who help inform the development of our higher education curriculum, we have placed real-world experience at the heart of our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication course.

This is a dynamic programme that responds in real-time to shifts in the fashion industry. Your learning environment will be enriched with an enviable programme of client briefs, competitions, work placements and guest speakers.

You will work with industry professionals to create visual branding, professional lookbooks and moving image projects, developing your online marketing skills and helping you pursue an original approach to fashion communication.
