    Introduction 


    The highly reputable BSc (Hons) Fashion Management course, aims to prepare you for a successful career in the complex and competitive global fashion industry. 
    This course will challenge you by equipping you with knowledge and skills in product planning, brand management, sustainability, supply chain, business analysis and financial accounting, retail and marketing. It will encourage you to become leaders and innovators in the business of fashion. This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). 
    You will have an opportunity to personalise your learning by following one of two subject paths in Year 2. This will enable you to focus on your preferred specialism developing high levels of knowledge supporting your future career path.

    The course includes thought-provoking discussions into the macro environment, promoting creative thinking and strategic planning. Graduates of this course are highly employable, and have gained roles within the industry with leading companies including luxury brands, high street leaders and online businesses.

    What to expect 


    -    The curriculum emphasises financial literacy, data analysis and the application of statistical models as a means to solve problems and make informed decisions. 
    -    You will develop a solid grounding in both theoretical and practical approaches to fashion business, buying, merchandising, supply chain and marketing as well as financial and leadership management skills. 
    -    You will gain an appreciation of the significance of responding effectively to the constant changes and challenges in global supply and demand.  
    -    You will develop entrepreneurial skills and focus on innovative business models.
    -    Throughout the course, you will be guided to apply the underlying theoretical principles of fashion management to the fashion industry. 
    -    You will develop communication skills through report writing, blogs and presentations. 
    -    The course provides an approach to learning that encourages you to work independently and creatively whilst enabling you to develop confidence in becoming a reflective independent learner, strategic thinker and decision maker. 
     

    Work experience and opportunities 

    You will have the opportunity to enter external competitions, such as the PRME Essay competition.  

    After successful completion of stage 2, you can undertake a Diploma in Professional Studies: Industry, with a Work Placement or Diploma in  Professional Studies: Enterprise. This provides increased industry awareness as well as crucial experience and valuable contacts within the industry. Recent placements have included ASOS, Levis, Ted Baker, Jimmy Choo and Dr Martens, as well as placements abroad in Europe, New York, Australia, India and Hong Kong.  

    Mode of study 


    BSc (Hons) Fashion Management runs for 90 weeks in full time mode. It is divided into 3 stages over 3 academic years. Each stage lasts 30 weeks. 
     

    The course includes thought-provoking discussions into the macro environment, promoting creative thinking and strategic planning.
    • The fashion industry is complex, global and highly competitive, this course promotes dynamic thinking challenging you to think strategically when implementing new business proposals.
    • Chartered Management Institute Accreditation: students are given the opportunity to graduate with an additional Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership, recognising the high level of their professional skills.
    • Expert tutors: Taught by experienced academics and industry professionals with relevant business and expert knowledge supporting critical thinking.
    • Industry links: students will be able to learn from visiting fashion experts from companies such as Matches Fashion, Rixo, Net-a-Porter, Adidas and Harvey Nichols
    • Graduate Destinations: Graduates of this course are highly employable; and have gained roles within the industry with leading companies including John Lewis, Burberry, Christian Dior, Harrods, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Ted Baker and Prada.
    • Optional Placement: Opportunity to undertake an optional placement year in industry/ study abroad and to obtain an additional qualification (Diploma in Professional Studies).

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    The standard minimum entry requirements for this course are:

    One or a combination of the following accepted full level 3 qualifications.

    • A Level Passes in at least 3 subjects to total a minimum 112 UCAS tariff points (equivalent to 280 old UCAS tariff points). Preferred subjects include, Maths, Business Studies, Economics, Science, Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages;
    • IB Diploma 25 points;
    • Distinction, Merit, Merit in BTEC Extended Diploma;
    • or equivalent EU or non-EU qualifications;
    • and Passes in at least SIX GCSEs at grade B (6) or above including English, Maths and a Science reflecting the course rationale and Business and Management Benchmarks statement (QAA, 2015).

    APEL (Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning)

    Applicants who do not meet these course entry requirements may still be considered in exceptional cases. The course team will consider each application that demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by:

    • Related academic or work experience
    • The quality of the personal statement
    • A strong academic or other professional reference
    • OR a combination of these factors

    Each application will be considered on its own merit but we cannot guarantee an offer in each case.

    Career

    All of our undergraduate courses are concerned with the development of your personal and professional skills. On your course you will evolve from learning basic skills in your discipline through to a position where you are an independent creative thinker capable of making an effective contribution to the relevant sector of the fashion industry. Personal and Professional Development (PPD) skills are embedded in all units on every course. Speaker programmes with contributions from alumni, members of industry and others are a part of many courses, as are work placement opportunities in industry.

    Graduates who wish to continue their education at postgraduate level are encouraged to progress to suitable courses within the College, the University or elsewhere.

    Career paths

    Recent graduates are working in a variety of roles in areas such as Sustainability, PR, Marketing, Buying and Merchandising, as well as digital engagement. They have secured roles with companies such as Burberry, FarFetch, Harvey Nichols, Zalando, Matches Fashion, Christian Dior, Harrods and Tom Dixon. We have many students who have gone on to secure success with their own brands and labels, the most recent being Rixo, who were celebrated in Drapers '30 under 30' awards.
