Film and Media Production

Who is the course for?

The MA Film and Media Production is of particular interest to graduates whose first degree has included some study of film and media production, but good honours degrees in other subjects, together with evidence of a serious interest in film and television, may also be appropriate.

The programme may also be of interest to professionals looking to augment their professional experience through specialised academic study or to develop their career prospects.

What will I study?

To gain the MA award you will study:

• Creativity, Culture, and Community (20 credits)
• Pre-Production for Film and Media (20 credits)
• Collaborative Practice (40 credits)
• Practical Production Skills for Film and Media (20 credits)
• Professional Development (20 credits)
• Final Project (60 credits)

We continually review and where appropriate, revise the range of modules on offer to reflect changes in the subject and ensure the best student experience. Modules will vary when studied in combination with another subject.

Induction

Before starting the programme, you'll be invited to attend an induction session which will give you details about academic, research and writing skills needed to study at postgraduate level. The induction will include such elements as library skills, IT applications, relevant software skills, research skills and writing at Masters level. It is also an opportunity to meet with other students on the course.

How to apply

All applicants for undergraduate programmes will need a minimum English level of IELTS or equivalent 6.0 overall, with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands. Some programmes require 6.5/7.0 – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

For postgraduate entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands or equivalent. Some courses have a higher requirement – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

For International Foundation entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent, with no less than 5.0 in writing and no less than 4.0 in all other bands.

If you have taken an IGCSE exam in English and have a Grade C, this will also usually be acceptable for most undergraduate courses.

We are also able to consider some non-UK English qualifications for entry. The International Admissions Team will advise if they are able to accept your English language qualification once you have applied.
