About

Overview The Film and TV Studies major at The City University of New York examines the history of cinema, genres, the methodologies for study, close analysis of cinematic works, theoretical approaches to film and the practice of camera, lighting, editing, audio production. The educational goal is to provide majors with a solid grounding in the discipline of Film which consists of Film history and Film Theory, its relation to other forms of art, its synthesis of visual storytelling, technology, economics, and sociopolitical context, as well as the means to writing screenplays and making short and full length films. This course of study is centered on developing students’ critical and creative minds that can view, analyze, critique and conceptually think about cinema and their own work.
