    Prepare for a career in the fast-paced industries of investment banking, asset management, corporate finance or general accounting with our BSc Finance (Investments) degree.

    Recent changes in finance – including the emergence of financial technology and the focus on sustainability – have necessitated changes throughout the industry.

    Develop the key skills and knowledge to meet these changes head-on, as you gain a deep understanding of finance and the financial services industry.

    Experts from Henley Business School will introduce you to the:

    • fundamental principles of accounting, finance and economics
    • quantitative techniques of finance
    • role of finance in business and society
    • ethics required to work in the finance industry.

    As your studies progress, you'll gain deeper knowledge of the core concepts in:

    • portfolio management
    • financial modelling
    • corporate finance

    • FX and international debt markets
    • hedging and trading.

    You'll learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and self-guided study. This will provide the opportunity to discuss subject materials in an in-depth way with your lecturers and fellow students.

    The University of Reading is a CFA partner university. Within this partnership, a number of scholarships are offered towards CFA exams (partial fee reduction) for which students can apply.

    Flexible study options

    After the first year of your BSc Finance (Investments) degree, you will have the option to transfer to any of our other specialist pathways:

    • BSc Finance (FinTech)
    • BSc Finance (Sustainable Finance)
    • BSc Finance (International Business)

    Each pathway is designed to help you understand particular challenges within finance and how to respond to them.

    If you choose to remain on the general degree course, you'll still be offered a wide range of options in your second and final years – allowing you to tailor your learning to your individual interests.

    All of our degrees are available as four-year options, with either a Placement Year or Study Year Abroad in the third year.

    How to Apply

    You can apply online for all of our courses, including courses with an Integrated Foundation Year, via the national admissions service, UCAS. You can choose to apply for up to five courses in total, including more than one course at the same institution.

    Begin your application

    Register at UCAS and complete the application pages online, using the UCAS codes on our course pages. 

    Our UCAS code is R12. The University does not have a campus code. 

    Write your personal statement

    As part of your application, you'll be asked to submit a personal statement to support your application. This is your opportunity to tell us more about why you want to study the course and what interests, skills and experience you have that demonstrate your passion for the subject.

    When you're happy with your application and have added the required information such as qualifications, personal statement and reference, you can submit your application. 

    A small charge is made by UCAS for applying to university. The application fee for 2022 entry was £22 to apply for a single course and £26.50 for multiple courses (and for applications submitted after 30 June).

    Make sure to check the UCAS website for the most up-to-date application deadlines. If you have missed the January deadline, there is still the opportunity to apply (via UCAS), and we are happy to consider late applications until 30 June 2022 (all applications received after 30 June are entered into Clearing). Please be aware that some of our courses may be full after the January UCAS deadline, so we recommend early applications where possible.
